The ultimate NFT treasure hunt

Do you remember those amazingly fun games we played as kids like treasure hunts, and hide-and-go seek? We do. The CryptoTrek treasure hunt is not that….at all. CryptoTrek is a mean, cruel and twisted take on these games, all for the reward of a large eth prize at the very end. We will test your mettle with puzzle solving skills and races to remote locations all over the US. (We intend to expand worldwide, but our pilot ‘season 0’ competition will be local to the US as we work to improve the game). We want to get you off your couch, away from your computer and out into the real world for a time. Play smarter than everyone else and you could end up with a financial windfall.

The Rules

Players will mint a round 1 NFT that will act as your ticket into the race. Each round will consist of a specific task, puzzle or IRL destination to find. If you make it into the next round, you will be allowed to burn your current NFT and mint a newer version signifying your advancement.

Total Mint: 1000 NFTs
Cost per NFT: 0.1 ETH + GAS
Prize Pool: At least 50% of the total Mint
Number of rounds in Season 0: Five

Round 1: Virtual (90% qualify for next round)
Round 2: Multi-City (60% qualify)
Rounds 3–4: Single Destination (25% to 10% qualify)
Round 5: Pure Evil (There can be only one)

Announcements for rounds, clues and other gameplay will occur in discord. Mint/burn portal will be a website that helps drive the CryptoTrek story forward.

The Roles

There are 3 roles in the game — The Competitors, The Eliminated and The Community

The Competitors

You’ve minted and are competing through rounds and following the CryptoTrek storyline.

• You are in the hunt for the large ETH prize at the end of the competition.
• Burn the NFTs of your fallen comrades, The Eliminated. If you somehow get your hands on their old, dusty, unused NFT and burn it on the web portal, it will give you small advantages over your competitors. As you burn your fallen comrade’s NFTs, your NFT will inherit properties from the burned one. Whether that’s additional clues, or an early look at where you need to go, there is always an advantage to having more information than the competition…

The Eliminated

Through misfortune or simply being too slow, you didn’t make it to the next round, sorry. But all is not lost! You still have a stake in the game in several ways:

• Most of the NFTs will have secondary characteristics that provide utility to competitors still in the race. Make some of your hard-earned investment back by listing your NFT on the secondary market. Competitors still in the hunt might just find a use for it.
• Flash Giveaways: A portion of the prize pool will be used for flash giveaways. This will be periodic ETH drops at specific IRL locations, you just have to be the first one to get there! If you’ve participated, you qualify for these!
• Participate in the karma system to influence how difficult you make life for the remaining competitors.
• Hodl your NFT for next season! There will be utility, even if the next competition isn’t in your area…so stay tuned!

The Community

Even if you’re not minting and competing in Season 0, you’ve helped build the community, participated in community challenges and been a generally great person to have in our discord. Because of this, we have some special rewards for both you and the Eliminated.

• Earn free Karma tokens that can be burned at specific points in the competition to actively influence the difficulty of the competition. Want to make things a bit easier for your friends who are still alive in the competition? No problem. Want to watch people suffer? You can do that too.
• Provide recommendations on puzzles and locations to enhance the experience of future seasons, all for more of that sweet, sweet Karma.
• Punitive mint: Didn’t earn enough free Karma? At specific times in the game, we will unlock a portal to mint Karma to help/hinder those poor souls who are still in the race.

FAQs

I’m not in the US, can I still participate?

• Rounds 3–5 of Season 0 will require you to physically show up at various locations in the US. So unless you can manage that, you won’t make it very far. With that being said, there are still ways you can participate!
• Earn Karma in the discord community to help shape and influence how the competition runs!
• You can mint a shovel now for guaranteed utility in future seasons when the game is closer to your home!

If I’m not participating or eliminated, can I still receive clues and try to solve the round?

• We will be dropping clues into private channels open only to those with the current round’s NFT. You must actively hold that round’s NFT to receive clues and be eligible to move on to the next round. If those folks want to share clues with you / others, that’s up to them! Fair warning to those folks though: Sharing clues won’t make your life any easier! ;)

What is Karma, how does it work?

• Karma is a special ERC20 token that is used to ‘vote’ on how difficult a puzzle is, or how hard a location is to reach. Using Karma, the community is in direct control of how the competition plays out. You will be able to spend Karma by burning it on our web portal, making things easier or harder for those remaining in the competition.
